letter from

ANDREW COPE

Dear School of Medicine Alumni,

This past fall, 12 PhD and master's degree alumni from the Stanford University School of Medicine participated in a group discussion moderated by Stanford researcher Jerold Pearson. The Stanford Medical Alumni Association sought their opinions on current and proposed alumni outreach programs. For the SMAA to succeed in maintaining connections with all alumni, this type of direct input is vital. The participants represented a cross-section of the alumni body and included graduates from the 1960s through the 1990s.

Some important themes and ideas emerged from the discussion. Participants suggested that the SMAA develop new alumni programs for graduates specifically interested in medical science. Professional networking events were also mentioned as an effective opportunity to connect alumni and students. These suggestions, as well as others, will be addressed by the SMAA and the School of Medicine to enhance the connections between alumni and their school.

Sincerely,

Andrew T. Cope
